Toxo Outreach Event

Tuesday, May 24, 2022

3:30 - 6 pm

For the first time, the conference will host a graduate student-led outreach event. For one afternoon, a subcommittee of selected graduate students will host a group of Advanced Placement (AP) Biology High School students from the Val Verde Unified local school district. The purpose of this event is to increase awareness of STEM fields and career paths and to encourage these promising students to attend college.

In addition, the outreach event will provide a unique career development opportunity for graduate students attending the conference. It will have minimal overlap with the scientific sessions.

If you are interested in serving as a Graduate Student Leader for this event, please submit an application via this link by March 10, 2022. You will be informed of your acceptance as a Graduate Student Leader by March 25, 2022. Participating graduate students will be formally acknowledged for their role in this event at the final banquet dinner.

The activities will include poster presentations, breakout groups with the graduate student leaders, discussions about career paths and opportunities in the sciences, and finally, sharing a meal with the graduate student leaders and faculty at the close of the event.
